Vedanta
   Shankaracharya, the proponent of vedanta, lived in the eighth or ninth century. His teachings continued to be a major intel-lectual current in medieval Hindu thought. The vedanta reduces the realities of soul and matter to one absolute reality that manifests itself in the multiplicity of names and forms of the phenomenal universe. It suggests that the soul is not only conscious but one and the same in all beings and is identical with God (Brahma).
